What does it mean to refinish a bathtub? It means to put a new finish on the tub. So technically someone can advertise bathtub refinishing for $50.00 and then use a white marker and color all over the tub and by definition they refinished the bathtub.
Now, because you know a marker is not going to work and would rub off fairly easy and would be complete waste of money and time you would think that to be pretty silly for someone to do, right?
Then you can understand how I feel when someone tells me they are going to paint their tub and tile with epoxy. I have seen the disasters. I have seen the peeling mess. I have had to clean up the failed paint jobs and it is terrible.
The Professional Bathtub Refinishing Association endorses fluorpolymer coatings that are etched and chemically welded into the old surface with high grade silane. Please don't let someone paint your bathtub or tile. It will look good for a few days because making a bathtub look pretty good for a picture is not very hard. Making it look good and last for 20 years is what refinishing is all about!
